Meet the counselor, Melanie Campbell

I am a Cullman native, attending Dowling Junior High and Cold Springs High Schools. I went to Wallace State Community College followed by the University of Alabama at Birmingham where I received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Psychology. I earned my Masters Degree in Counseling from the Georgia School of Professional Psychology. I have been in practice since 2002. I have worked in both inpatient and outpatient substance abuse and mental health treatment settings throughout my career and bring that experience to the clients I serve at my private practice, which was established in 2005.

Outside of the office, I enjoy being outdoors whether it’s sitting in the swing bird-watching, kayaking, riding the side-by-side or motorcycle, lounging by the pool, or attending car shows. I am a Mustang-girl and have three in my collection. I also have a small collection of dogs and cats. I enjoy shopping, traveling, and spending time with my daughter, family, and friends.

FAQ's

How long will I be in therapy:

Time in therapy can range from a few weeks to a few years, depending on how consistently you practice therapy outside of therapy as well as how many goals you want to address. Many clients continue coming for “maintenance” even after they have reached their goals to ensure that they don’t regress and sometimes simply because they enjoy it!

How often will I need to attend therapy:

Session frequency is usually determined by the severity of your symptomology balanced with how often you are able to attend. Hectic schedules and finances often keep clients from attending as often as clinically recommended but we believe that something is better than nothing, you just may not experience relief as quickly and be in therapy longer to compensate.

What to expect:

While most clients are uncomfortable at first, they soon settle into that warm feeling of having someone to talk to that understands and can offer a different perspective. Therapy is simply talking to a non-biased person about whatever is bothering you.
